Who are BlueCow Hosting ?

BlueCowHosting is a group of bloggers that got into the Service Provider business because quite frankly we were not happy with the support we got from "disk space" providers. We had to learn how to install Wordpress, find the right plugins and add them, then build templates that we actually liked, manage any ad space that we needed which means modifying the templates to support ads, then interate all the components together.

We then decided, why not simply offer this service to others so they can get down to building great content instead of learning how to be a PHP expert. So with that in mind we created the BlueCow.

Why should I blog?

There are many great reasons to blog, indeed far too many for us to list here. However if you have a passion for something, from knitting to Native Icelandic Migatory Birds, you have a reason to blog.

If however your trade is a communicator, then you really need to be talking and building that community of interest.

Why Wordpress?

WordPress started in 2003 with a single bit of code to enhance the typography of everyday writing and with fewer users than you can count on your fingers and toes. Since then it has grown to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world, used on hundreds of thousands of sites and seen by tens of millions of people every day.

Everything you see here from the Wordpress folks, from the documentation to the code itself, was created by and for the community. WordPress is an Open Source project, which means there are hundreds of people all over the world working on it. (More than most commercial platforms.) It also means you are free to use it for anything from your cat’s home page to a Fortune 5 web site without paying anyone a license fee.

Not only does the BlueCow use Wordpress because he does not have any credit cards (and he is cheap) but it is simply the best Blogging platform out there bar none. It is the most flexible, extensible and reliable software bar none.

How do I choose a Hosting Package?

First off ignore all those sites that offer 50 Million Petabytes of storage for $3.95. Firstly you will never use all that space, but more importantly for that price you will not get the support you really need. That is okay if you have a Masters in Computer Science and you are not turned off by CGI, PHP and lots of other acronymns, however for most of us this will cause a problem.

Forget about a hosting vendor whose customer support is a 17 year old World of Warcraft junkie. Look for a hosting service provider that actually understands what you need in software and services to get running as fast as possible. Do they provide support for plugins and templates. Can they help with the art of blogging, do they understand how to use Reddit, DIgg, Youtube and Flickr to get your blogging site really humming.

Why do you only accept Paypal?

We currently only accept Paypal for a number of reasons. We have been using Paypal for the last 8 years, indeed since the year 2000. We are an authorized Premier Business Partner. More importantly Paypal offers you a great deal of protection. We do not have or store your credit card details, this is left upto Paypal to manage. Their rates are reasonable and they are accepted and used by millions of people throughout the world.

We currently do not accept other forms of payment including checks and other manual payment options. We try really hard to keep costs down for everyone and hence a single form of payment.
